A retired woman who spends most of her time doing volunteer work has said that she plans to give back to the community after pocketing a massive USD 5 million lottery jackpot.
The lucky winner, named only as Pamela D., from Pueblo, in Colorado, told lottery officials she had been playing the Colorado Lottery “from day one” but had only ever won USD 50 (GBP 40) at most.
But after her son checked her lottery ticket and told her she had won USD 5 million (GBP 4 million), Pamela said she wants to give back to her community, as it holds “a special place in her heart”.

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Colorado Lottery on 12 December saying: “Pamela, who is retired, says she has been playing the Colorado Lottery ‘from day one’ but the most she had ever won was $50. When Pamela stopped at the Loaf N Jug at 3980 Ivywood Lane in Pueblo to pick up a soda, she grabbed a $3 Colorado Lotto+ winning ticket – something she had done many times before. She never imagined this was the one that would change her life forever.”
The statement also said: “The winning ticket ended up on Pamela’s fridge, waiting patiently for its moment in the spotlight. When her son checked the ticket for her and realized all six numbers matched (10-24-27-35-37-38), he got to tell his mom the life-changing news – that she had won over USD 5 million!”
Lottery officials continued: “Pamela spends her time in retirement volunteering now. Although still grappling with the shock of her newfound fortune. Pamela has chosen to channel her energy into giving back to the community that holds a special place in her heart. She’s not sure exactly what she will do with her winnings but is determined to ‘improve our magnificent Pueblo!’
“Congratulations, Pamela! The town of Pueblo sounds lucky to have you!”
