Sick fraudsters accused of convincing a 74-year-old man he was being romanced by a famous actress have been seized by police after he killed himself.

Police say the pair, named as Chinagorom Onwumere, 34, and Salma Abdalkareem, 27, swindled USD 100,000 (GBP 79,864) out of their victim before he ended his life.

First, say police in Jonesborough, Tennessee State, USA, Abdalkareem convinced him she was a celebrated star who wanted to have a relationship with him.

Then her partner posed as an FBI agent who said he was investigating a claim of sexual harassment made against him by the ‘actress’.

Between 13th August to 23rd October Onwumere demanded huge sums from the terrified pensioner to pay off bogus fines to avoid a high publicity trial.

Police and prosecutors believe they scammed more than USD 100,000 from their frightened victim before he committed suicide.

The cruel con was only discovered when his family began going through his email records after his death and told police.

Washington County Police Lt. Vince Walters told local media: “The victim was just scared and just felt like they needed to pay the money.”

The two suspects were arrested last month (21st November) at their home in Piscataway, New Jersey State.

They are each charged with three counts of extortion, three counts of financial exploitation of an elderly or vulnerable person, two counts of theft over USD 60,000 (GBP 47,918) and two counts of criminal impersonation.

The case is ongoing.
