A lucky man in the USA who scooped the jackpot on a lottery ticket can now fulfil a promise made to his nephew and buy him a new car.
Rickey Gunthrope from the city of Salisbury, North Carolina state, USA, said he will keep his word to his nephew after he scooped USD 200,260 [GBP 164,922] in the Cash 5 game on Sunday, 22nd October.
The lucky uncle said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from North Carolina Education Lottery: “My nephew’s car broke down. I said, ‘If I win any money, I will buy you a car.’
“I called him this morning and told him to go shopping.”
Gunthrope reportedly purchased the USD 1 (GBP 0.8} ticket at a local Food Lion store.
He said: “I feel wonderful right now! It looks so beautiful!
“I have always played that same combination of numbers. I told myself that one day it would come for me.”
At lottery headquarters on 23rd October, he revealed how he woke up the day after the drawing to check the results and was stunned when he saw that the ticket had matched all five numbers to win the jackpot.
Rickey added: “When I saw my numbers, I just started slapping myself because I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was like, ‘Am I awake?'”
The lucky player took home USD 142,686 (GBP 117,460) after state and federal taxes.
He said that aside from buying his nephew a new car, he will use the prize to do some home reparations on a house that he had just purchased a couple of months ago.
North Carolina Education Lottery representatives said: “Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
“Tuesday’s Cash 5 jackpot is USD 110,000 [GBP 90,579].”
