A middle school teacher in the USA has been arrested after she allegedly wrapped a student’s mouth, wrists, and head with duct tape for four days straight.
Cassandra ‘Candi’ Diann Sisler from the city of Terra Alta, West Virginia State, USA, was apprehended and detained for allegedly physically abusing a male student whose name and age were not revealed, on several occasions on Friday, 13th October.
The 43-year-old teacher was charged with four counts of child abuse in connection to the incident at the Central Preston Middle School, in the city of Kingwood.
Police reports revealed all of the incidents, including Sisler using duct tape to restrain the boy, took place earlier this month in her classroom.
The victim told West Virginia State Police Department officers that Sisler put duct tape over his mouth in front of the whole class each day from 2nd until 5th October.
According to an official affidavit, the boy reportedly said that in the first assault “[h]is teacher put duct tape over his mouth from ear to ear” and that it took place “in the middle of class.”
He said that his lips and mouth were red and sore after he removed the tape.
The next day, 3rd October, the boy claimed that Sisler again put duct tape over [his] mouth from ear to ear”, once again “in the middle of class”.
Then the following day, according to the document, she once again duct taped the boy’s mouth and “also grabbed his hands and wrapped his wrists in duct tape.”
According to the victim, the gravity of the situation escalated on 5th October, after Sisler brought stronger tape which she reportedly “wrapped around his head over his mouth and onto his shoulder”.
Sisler was booked in Preston County jail on a USD 10,000 (GBP 8,226) bond for each of the four counts of alleged abuse on Friday.
She posted the USD 40,000 (GBP 32,907) bond and was released from custody.
Preston County Superintendent Brad Martin said he is unable to comment on the alleged incidents due to the pending legal matter but said the district is taking the matter seriously.
Martin added: “We are taking all necessary actions while this situation is being actively investigated by authorities.”
