Lucky Bloke Scoops USD 4m On ‘Cool-Looking’ Lottery Ticket

An American man scooped a staggering USD 4 million with a lottery ticket he bought because he “liked the design”.

Jovon L. Garner of Brunswick, Georgia State, won the eye-watering prize, worth GBP 3.2 million, in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “USD 4,000,000 Diamonds” USD 10 instant ticket game.

Jovon, who bought the winning ticket while on work in Massachusetts, opted to receive his prize in the form of a one-time, pre-tax payment of USD 2,600,000 (GBP 2.1 million), the Massachusetts Lottery said in a statement on 23rd May.

According to the state lottery, he plans to use part of his winnings to buy a new vehicle and a new shed.

This snap shows him in a red hat and polo shirt looking content as he holds up his oversized cheque for the camera.

The Massachusetts Lottery said that the shop where he purchased the lucky ticket – Stop & Shop at 259 Main Street in Stoneham – will receive a bonus of USD 40,000 (GBP 32,000) for the winning sale.

The Massachusetts Lottery celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Since selling its first ticket on 22nd March 1972, it has generated over USD 143 billion (GBP 116 billion) in revenues, awarded over USD 100 billion (GBP 81 billion) in prizes, returned over USD 31 billion (GBP 25 billion) in net profit to the Commonwealth for unrestricted local aid provided to cities and towns, and paid over USD 8 billion (GBP 6.5 billion) in commissions and bonuses to its statewide network of retailers.
