Tracy Neff, from the town of Jonesville, in Lee County, in the US state of Virginia, bought a scratcher ticket at the Black Diamond Market at 1531 Morgan Avenue in Pennington Gap.

After realising he had won USD 5 million (GBP 3.94 million), he said that he “just about passed out.”

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Virginia Lottery saying: “When Tracy Neff realised the Virginia Lottery scratcher ticket in his hand was worth USD 5 million, he kept quiet.”

Lottery officials said in their statement: “He bought a 100X the Money ticket and scratched it while still in the store.

“Mr Neff had the choice of taking the full USD 5 million prize in annual payments over 30 years or a one-time cash option of USD 3,125,000 [GBP 2.46 million] before taxes. He chose the cash option.”

The statement also said that the store got a USD 10,000 (GBP 7,883) bonus for selling the winning jackpot ticket, where prizes can range from just USD 30 (GBP 23.65) to the huge top prize of USD 5 million.
