A five-year-old girl died in a high-speed collision with a police SUV as it raced through a red light to an emergency call and smashed into the car she was travelling in with her mother.
Little Jalina Anglin was in the back seat of a Kia car at a set of lights in the city of Auburndale, in the US state of Florida, when she was hit by the Chevrolet Silverado.
Police say traffic had been held up to let the marked pick-up truck through but Jalina’s mum, Monae Anglin, apparently failed to notice the sirens and drove straight in front of the patrol car.
Jalina was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival after suffering massive head injuries on Saturday, 25th November.
Her mother was also injured but was allowed home after treatment for a broken wrist.
Police are now investigating whether Jalina was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The police SUV driver, who was on his way to help a fellow cop being attacked by a suspect, was not injured, reports local media.
Jalina’s mum took to social media, where she’s known as Love Monea, to pour out her heart.
She said in a Facebook post: “Jalina passed away. Me and my baby last pictures together on Thanksgiving.
“I was so angry, but once I calmed down God makes no mistakes. I’m blessed for the five years I had with you. My girl, my heart, I will forever love you.
“I don’t think I’ll ever be okay, my firstborn and only child is gone. If I could just hear you sing and talk my ears off one more time, mummy loves you.
“Visit me in my dreams. If I could trade my life with you I would. I’m hurting so bad. Lord give me strength.”
