A lucky woman in the USA has won USD 75,000 on a lottery scratchcard after she decided to keep it for herself when it didn’t fit in her ex-father-in-law’s birthday card.
Paula Penn from the city of Texarkana, Arkansas State, USA, said she bought several instant tickets as a birthday gift for her ex-father-in-law from a local E-Z Mart store on Thursday, 7th September.
But after having realised that all of them would not fit in the birthday envelope, she decided to keep the USD 3 (GBP 2.4) USD 75,000 Jewels (GBP 59,901) ticket for herself.
Paula said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Arkansas Lottery: “That ticket really stood out to me because of the diamonds on it. I love diamond mining in my spare time.”
The player said she was at work when she discovered that she had hit big, and added: “I asked my boss and co-workers to confirm the win, and the owner gave me permission to leave for the day to come to Little Rock to redeem my prize.
“My ex-father-in-law is definitely going to get a kick out of this story.”
At lottery headquarters, Penn revealed she plans to use the money to pay off her debt and treat herself to a vacation later this year.
She said: “I can also quit my second job as an Uber driver.”
Arkansas Lottery officials said: “Players have two chances to become a multi-millionaire this week with Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots totaling more than USD 600 million [GBP 479 million].
“The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday night’s drawing is USD 122 million [GBP 97 million]. The Powerball jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing has reached USD 500 million [GBP 399 million].”
“With no LOTTO jackpot winner since May, the lottery’s grand prize continues to soar and sits at USD 977,000 [GBP 573,191] for Saturday night.
“LOTTO is an Arkansas-only jackpot game with drawings every Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets are USD 2 [GBP 1.6] per play and can be purchased at all lottery retailers or on the Jackpocket app.”
