Woman Wins USD 2 Million After Finding Lucky Coin Sent By Her Dead Dad

A woman who won USD 2 million on a scratchcard has told how she was sent a sign telling her to buy it by her dead dad.

The lucky winner – who does not want to be named – says she found a penny coin outside her home in Hagerstown, Maryland State, USA.

And she believes the coin was a sign from her late father, who had always dreamed of winning big the lottery.

She said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Maryland Lottery: “The penny was laying heads up. That means it is a lucky penny.

“We knew it was a penny from heaven.”

The winner – identified only by her online alias Happy Dog Groomer – says she will share her win with her family, because that’s what her dad would have done.

She had been on her way to cash in an earlier ticket for her winnings when she found the penny by her doorstep.

Inspired by the find, she bought a USD 30 (GBP 24) Cash is King instant ticket at the Hub City Liquors store in her home town.

She said she almost used a random quarter to scratch it off, but stopped herself when she realised it was not the right coin.

She said: “I almost forgot to use my penny. I had to stop scratching with that quarter and grabbed my lucky penny.”

Just moments later she uncovered an astonishing USD 2 million (GBP 1.6 million) panel under one of the numbers on her ticket and immediately called her sister to share the news.

The two collected the money at lottery headquarters in Baltimore earlier this week.

Maryland Lottery officials announced that the retailer will get a USD 2,000 (GBP 1,617) bonus for sharing a top-prize winning ticket.

They added: “Happy Dog Groomer is the third top-prize winner in the Cash is King game; two more USD 2,000,000 [GBP 1.6 million] prizes are unclaimed.

“Players can also seek four remaining USD 50,000 [GBP 40,430] prizes and others ranging from USD 30 [GBP 24] to USD 10,000 [GBP 8,087].”
