Bizarre Drive-By Death Of Woman Killed By Flying Tyre

A woman died in a bizarre accident when a tyre being carried on a trailer bounced off and flew through her windscreen.

Victim Emily Ludwig, 38, was driving to meet pals at a theme park in the city of Eureka, Missouri State, USA, on Saturday, 22nd July, when the tyre ricocheted across a motorway and hit her in the head.

The 15-inch tyre smashed through her windscreen causing massive head injuries and careworker Emily died six days.

The trailer driver – report local media – was apparently unaware of what happened and drove on without stopping.

Police have been checking CCTV at service stations and lorry stops on the interstate route in a bid to identify the driver.

Emily’s sister Betsy Clark told local media: “Somebody has to know who it was. The driver knows by now, I would think, that their tyre’s gone.

“They have to wonder what happened to it.”

A GoFundMe campaign set up by friend Kelley Moulton revealed that Emily’s family donated her organs for transplant and have saved the lives of five people.

Kelley said: “Emily gave a second chance at life to five people today.

“Her heart, lungs, liver, left and right kidneys were donated to recipients. Her pancreas was donated for research.

“The parallel in her life and death is not lost on me.

“Emily was committed to supporting her clients to have life abundantly, and so too in her death she selflessly gave to five recipients.

“Em, we are so proud of you.”

She added: “Emily was kind, quick witted, fiercely loyal, and deeply committed to loving what mattered most to her.

“She loved her family, friends and cats Hector and Baxter.

“To know Emily was to know love – not simply in words but also with actions. She always seemed to show up when needed the most.”

Police are investigating the accident.
