A five-year-old boy has died after being run over by his father near a playground.

Jeremiah Holmes was hit by a vehicle allegedly driven by his father in South Bend, in the US state of Indiana, on Saturday, 22nd July.

St Joseph County Police responded to the incident at around 10:30pm, with them then later identifying Jeremiah’s 28-year-old father Christopher Holmes as the driver of the vehicle that ran him over in an apartment car park near the playground.

The injured boy was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead in the early hours of Sunday, 23rd July.

The police determined that his father had accidentally run him over.

The father is said to be cooperating with the police.

The investigation is ongoing.

A GoFundMe has been launched to cover Jeremiah’s medical expenses and funeral costs, saying: “With a heavy heart we are asking for your help. On Saturday July 22nd, Jeremiah was hit by a car and lost his life.

“At this time we are asking, if there is any amount you can give, please do. We appreciate and Thank you for the prayers and condolences. However if you can find it in your heart to help us send our loved one home, it too will be greatly appreciated.”

At the time of writing, it had raised nearly USD 600 (GBP 465) out of a USD 7,000 (GBP 5,425) goal.
