The young woman, Kayelee Gates, and her fiancé Christian Capraro, from Texas, had booked up two nights at the Airbnb on Dale Drive in Silver Springs in Maryland in the United States in August 2022.

Court documents obtained by Newsflash say: “After getting settled, the couple had decided to take a shower in the shared bathroom, and were intimate while in the shared bathroom.

“They then returned to the room, where they laid down on the bed, put a movie on and began to relax.

“Mr Capraro, who installs smoke detectors professionally, noticed that it was odd that there was a smoke detector in the middle of the ceiling and another one in the corner of the room.

“Upon standing on the bed to examine the “smoke detector” above the bed, they noticed a camera lens. Ms. Gates immediately began to hyperventilate and experience shock.

“Mr Capraro comforted her, and then realized he had seen a similar “smoke detector” in the bathroom. He checked the bathroom and confirmed that it was an identical hidden camera as was in their room, and there was a second “smoke detector” in the shared bathroom room as well.

“Ms Gates became overwhelmed and needed to leave the property. They went out to their car to get fresh air and to think, and then decided to leave the Property and call the police.”

Montgomery County Police later obtained a search warrant to visit the short-term rental property found another device disguised as a smoke detector in a basement flat that was also being rented out to a different guest.

Dan Whitney, Jr. from the couple’s law firm Whitney, LLP, and said that the whole experience was a nightmare, not least of all because they did not know what happened with the footage that had been taken.

The owner of the property, named in court paperwork as Christoper Goisse, as well as his twin brother Larry Goisse are accused of being responsible for what happened. They have denied any wrongdoing.

It was revealed that Larry is currently in jail because of healthcare fraud and drug offences. He is described as having a methamphetamine addiction.

Christopher Goisse has apparently suggested to police that the couple planted the smoke detectors in order to make the claims.

Montgomery County police have declined to comment while the litigation is ongoing.
