A man has been arrested for killing his newborn baby boy in hospital while his wife was visiting their other newborn baby, the baby’s twin sister, in the intensive care unit.
Noah Benjamin Bliss, 22, from North Carolina, allegedly shook his three-week-old baby to death at the WakeMed Hospital’s Raleigh Campus in Raleigh, in the US state of North Carolina, on 6th October, and was arrested on Friday, 13th October.
He has been charged with first-degree murder and intentional child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury over the death of his son, Gunner Bliss.
Gunner had reportedly been released from the intensive care unit just days before his death.
Mum Savannah Bliss told local media that she was visiting her newborn daughter Madelyn, who is still in intensive care after the birth, while Gunner was with his dad on a hotel-like floor of the hospital reserved for visiting family members.
The authorities said that Gunner was shaken to death and was dead by the end of the day.
Local media reported that when Savannah got back from seeing Macelyn, Gunner had been deprived of oxygen and had suffered a bleed on his bread and swelling as a result of trauma to his head.
Savannah said she was taken off guard by the tragedy, saying: “He seemed happy, like a proud father. I never thought this would have happened. I trusted him. That was his daddy. He loved his babies.”
Bliss is currently being held without bond, with a court date set for November. It is currently unclear why the suspect allegedly murdered his newborn son.
