A 70-year-old driver has miraculously escaped unscathed after sending a Tesla flying 50ft across a swimming pool through a wall and into a family kitchen in California.
The driver, not named by police in San Mateo, had bumped over a curb at speed and soared over an outdoor pool before smashing into the house.
Astonishing pictures of the aftermath on 17th November show the car jammed up against the front of the kitchen’s range cooker surrounded by crash debris.
Police say the driver, who was not injured, had been in her neighbouring property when she lost control of the electric-powered Tesla.
San Mateo Police Department spokesperson Jerami Surratt said: “When the driver lost control of the vehicle, the car drove over a curb and through the driveway of a neighbour’s home, then through a fence that separated the two properties.
“The fence and back of the house is approximately 40 feet.”
The driver and her 40-year-old daughter, who was a passenger, stayed at the scene and were interviewed by officers.
Police said there was no evidence that either of them had been drinking.
Surratt said: “The driver stated that she was unfamiliar with driving this car and has not driven in about a year.
“The driver stated there might have been an issue with the car. “
Witnesses say the Tesla was being driven very slowly before accelerating rapidly.
Amazingly nobody was home when the car crashed through the kitchen at breakfast time.
The owner’s daughter, Meredith Donato, told local media: “My sister actually got an alert from the security alarm system to let her know that someone had broken into the house.
“If my mother was in the house, she would absolutely have been drinking her tea at 7am in the kitchen.”
She added: “There’s obviously property damage, but at the end of the day it’s just stuff.”
Police are investigating the crash.
