A kind-hearted woman who paid for another customer’s groceries after seeing them struggling to find enough scooped an astonishing USD 150,000 just moments later.
Lucky Briana Mills discovered the win as a rainbow broke out in the sky overhead, and even snapped the ticket after holding it up to show the gold at the end of the rainbow.
Briana was standing in line waiting to purchase some items at a 7-Eleven at 1924 Walnut Drive in the area of Chester, when she saw the person ahead having a difficult time paying.
That’s when the generous woman from the city of Petersburg, in the US state of Virginia, paid for the customer’s purchase.
While leaving the store, however, she decided to take a chance and buy a ‘Strike It Rich’ scratchcard, and was amazed when she uncovered a USD 150,000 (GBP 122,637) prize.
After discovering she had won, she went outside and took a photo of the winning ticket with a rainbow that had just appeared in the sky.
Virginia Lottery officials said: “The Strike It Rich game features prizes ranging from USD 5 [GBP 4] to USD 150,000 [GBP 122,637].
“It’s one of dozens of scratcher games available from the Virginia Lottery.
“This is the second top prize claimed in the game, which means one more top prize is unclaimed.
“The chances of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,224,000. The chances of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 4.09.
“All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. Ms. Mills lives in Petersburg, which received more than USD 7.1 million (GBP 5.8 million) in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.
“In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised more than USD 867 million [GBP 708 million] for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.”
