Chicago Officer Injured By Friendly Fire In Intense Shooting Incident

A recent officer-involved shooting incident in Chicago has taken an unexpected turn as one of the officers involved was wounded by friendly fire.

The incident came after police received a trespassing complaint in the vicinity of 300 W. 56th Place in Chicago, in the US State of Illinois on 24th July.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene where they observed a group of individuals in a cul-de-sac.

Footage released by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) on 23rd August, shows multiple officers engage with the group and a driver inside a black sedan.

As officers approached on foot, attempting to communicate with the sedan’s driver, the vehicle attempted to flee the area, colliding with a police vehicle before speeding away.

In the midst of this escalating situation, two officers discharged their firearms at the moving sedan.

Police said one officer was then unintentionally struck in the hand by gunfire from another officer.

So far, police have not made any arrests.

The investigation is ongoing.
