Roidan Durruthy-Mendoza, 38, from Las Vegas, Nevada State, USA, was detained and charged with open murder, attempted murder with a deadly weapon and domestic battery with a deadly weapon on Friday. 18th August.

The charges followed after he reportedly slayed his ex-wife Marillorky Tamayo-Cruz at an apartment in the 3900 block of South Jones Boulevard on Thursday, 17th August.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers said they rushed to the flat after Tamayo-Cruz’s 14-year-old daughter called them at around 2.40pm the same day.

She reportedly told the dispatcher to ‘hurry up’ because Durruthy-Mendoza ‘has got a gun’ as he reportedly fired several gunshots in the background.

The police said in an official affidavit: “There was a lot of commotion and screaming and [the daughter] sounded as though she walked away from the phone.

“When [she] got back to the phone, she said her mother was dead.”

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement obtained by CEN: “Officers arrived and located multiple victims inside an apartment.

“Medical personnel responded and pronounced a female victim deceased at the scene and transported three other victims to UMC Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

Detectives reportedly recovered 11 cartridge cases from the scene and realised that a security door and front door of the flat had been ‘shot off’.

The victim’s body was found in the hallway between the bedroom and bathroom of the flat, next to a 9-millimetre handgun.

She had reportedly suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the forehead.

Reports revealed one of the victims had been shot in the elbow, while the other had suffered a gunshot wound to the eye.

A two-year-old child who Durruthy-Mendoza and Tamayo-Cruz shared custody of was unharmed in the incident, according to the affidavit.

The teenage daughter later told police that she was with her mum shortly before the fatal shooting.

Tamayo-Cruz reportedly told her she had won “the house, the truck, and custody of the children” earlier that day in court.

A witness who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting to that the offender shot and kicked down the bedroom door where the victim was hiding.

He then shot her in the head three times before allegedly saying “I told you not to joke around with me”.

Meanwhile security cameras caught Durruthy-Mendoza parking his car in front of police headquarters at around 3.10pm.

He reportedly went inside covered in blood and requested to talk to an officer, after which he went out and sat down on a bench.

When cops approached him and asked what had happened, the 38-year-old man reportedly said: “I killed my wife.”

He then also said that his wife’s daughter had stabbed him in the left shoulder.

Following his arrest cops said: “He was transported to UMC to receive medical attention and was booked in absentia for open murder with a deadly weapon, and two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.”
