Boy Shot Down At Gran’s 70th Birthday Party

A nine-year-old boy was gunned down dead in a drive-by shooting at his grandmother’s 70th birthday party.

Ulysses Campo – who was set to turn 10 in a few weeks – was hit in the chest after six rounds were fired from a moving car while he was playing outside with friends, say police.

Ulysses died in hospital after the shooting at Franklin Park, near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, USA, on Saturday, 8th July, according to local media.

He had been playing outside his grandmother’s home with friends when the gunman opened fire, according to local media.

Investigators say the car said to have been involved in the shooting has been found and one person has been taken into custody.

A GoFundMe page started by Ulysses’s niece Karina Cazares to help pay for his funeral costs: “He was a kindhearted, loving kid, he loved playing video games with his cousins.”

At the time of writing, it had beaten its USD 15,000 (GBP 11,600) target by over USD 4,000 (GBP 3,100).

Karina said: “Hi, my name is Karina Cazares and I’m raising funds for my uncle, Ulysses Campos.

“On July 8th, 2023 tragedy struck our family when a fatal gunshot wound to the chest struck our beloved Uly Bear.

“He was 9 years old and full of excitement as he was getting ready to celebrate his 10th birthday in 2 short weeks.

“I ask that you please find it in your heart to help our family give Uly the funeral memorial he deserves.

“He was a kindhearted, loving kid, he loved playing video games with his cousins, he had a creative imagination, and was always full of excitement.

“He is a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin. He will be eternally missed.

“Thank you for your time and donation. We greatly appreciate your support during this difficult time. The money raised will help cover memorial services. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Then she said in an update: “We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support our family has been receiving.

“Thank you so much for helping us surpass the USD 10,000 goal. I have updated the goal to USD 15,000 as all the funds will be going to his parents to help offset the funeral costs.

“A tree will be planted in Uly Bear’s honor as a representation of his life and memory living on. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
