This is the moment police officers come to the rescue of a greedy racoon with a mayonnaise jar stuck on its head.

The footage, filmed in Painesville, in Florida, shows two police officers, named as Chad Balausky and Steve Ettinger, and a police intern named only as Gill, catching the “masked bandit with a mayo jar stuck on its head “.

They can then be seen removing the jar from the poor animal’s head before releasing it.

The terrified racoon can then be seen sprinting off, with the civilian jumping out of the way as it darts in his direction.

It is currently unclear how the racoon managed to get its head stuck in the mayonnaise jar and if it found it while dumpster diving.

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Painesville Police Department dated 14th July saying: “Early morning hours of Thursday, July 13, sightings of a masked bandit with a mayo jar stuck on its head were reported in the Bank Street area near E Walnut Avenue.

“Officers Chad Balausky and Steve Ettinger rescued the distressed raccoon, while police intern Gill added a little hop to his step. You never know what you’ll see on night shift.”
