A beautiful woman and mum of four has been killed in front of her children by her ex-boyfriend.
Jameka Williams, 38, was gunned down in front of three of her children, aged 12, 14, and 17, on Bird Run Drive in the area of Missouri City, in the US state of Texas on Friday, 10th November.
The suspect, reportedly Williams’ ex-boyfriend and father of two of the children, whose identity was not revealed, had shot her and fled in a white Nissan Altima at around 7pm.
Lt. Larry Crowson from the Houston Police Department said that the pair had gotten into a fight before the incident.
Houston Police Department detectives H. Martinez and S. Chettry said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “She had suffered at least one gunshot wound.
“Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the woman deceased.”
The victim’s sister, Jaterra Williams, said she found out about Jameka’s death after her 14-year-old niece called her later that evening.
Jaterra said: “My niece who was here at the time called my phone and said that her dad had killed her mama, and she was just crying.”
She continued: “It hurts because [of] the fact the kids had to experience a traumatic experience like that, and that’s the last memories they will see of their mother.”
Jaterra said that her sister and the suspect had been on and off since high school, but they had recently separated.
She added that Jameka was getting ready for a fun night out with friends, when the suspect became jealous.
Jaterra explained: “When he saw her flat ironing her hair, getting ready to hang with friends, he said, ‘You’re not going anywhere. Today is the day,’ and that’s when he got the gun and pulled it out on her.”
The victim’s family claimed he had threatened her before, but they never took him seriously.
Jaterra added: “She showed me text messages where he was threatening her that he was going to kill her and whoever she is talking to.
“If a guy or girl is telling you they will hurt you or kill you or anything else, I would say leave after the first sign. You have to believe it.”
Coping with the loss, Jameka’s eldest son, Jayden Williams, said: “My mum always talked about me graduating now that I am finally a senior.
“It’s supposed to be me and her year. She always talked about my prom, coming to my games, and watching me walk that stage as a senior.
“I’m not just a senior but a senior with honours.”
The family has launched a fundraiser to help cover Jameka’s funeral costs.
It says: “We are starting this go-fund-me page to support the children in the loss of their only caregiving parent and beloved mother.
“We will always remember your support and generosity and appreciate any amount that you can give.”
The campaign has raised USD 7,190 (GBP 5,847) out of a USD 10,000 (GBP 8,133) goal.
