A stunned lotto winner has told how he bought his wife a huge bouquet of flowers after scooping an astonishing USD 5 million.
Amazed Waldemar ‘Bud’ T., from Montrose, Colorado State, USA, also splashed out on a watermelon for himself.
Outdoorsman Bud, 77, had been backpacking Holy Cross Wilderness, San Isabel with his golden retriever Augie on 6th September when he hit the jackpot.
But he had no idea he’s won until he returned and could check his ticket online.
He says he couldn’t quite believe he’s scooped USD 5,067,041 (GBP 4,061,790) and kept thinking: “It must be a mistake!”
Bud who bought the ticket at the local Hangin Tree Travel Plaza, told how he and his wife spend six months in Arizona, and the rest of the year in Colorado.
He said: “Colorado is the most beautiful place in the world.”
As he collected his prize at state lottery headquarters Bud was told he could choose between a lump sum or annual payments.
He chose the lump sum and headed home with USD 2.5 million (GBP 2 million).
Waldemar revealed the prize would help him provide some much-needed help around the house and yard while his wife recovers from some upcoming surgery.
The winner added: “I’m going to give to some charities and really think about what it is I was meant to do with this.”
