Nick Miller from the city of Bernard, Iowa State, USA, was overjoyed when his fiancee Lauren Timmerman accepted his marriage proposal on Thursday, 22nd June.

But the 31-year-old man continued his lucky streak when while heading to work with his brother the next morning, he won a progressive jackpot of USD 390,191 (GBP 307,357).

Miller who farms with his family and works at Rail-Way Inc. – a Cascade company that produces railroad crossings – said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Iowa Lottery: “I’m ready for the next parts of life, I guess!”

He said it all began when the two made a stop for some coffee and pizza at the Casey’s convenience store in the city of Cascade on Friday, 23rd June.

At the store, he reportedly noticed that the Super 7s Progressive InstaPlay game had skyrocketed, so he decided to buy a ticket.

Miller said: “I went back to my truck and the first thing I did was look down to the progressive jackpot game and started matching my winning numbers.

“And I had one and then two and then I saw the third one, so I had to do a double-take and check them again.

“Eventually, I checked them on my mobile app, and sure enough, it was the winner.”

The lucky man said he was bursting with the news following the grand win, but he chose to stay quiet as he and his fiancee had left for a week-long holiday to Florida.

But he admitted his mind kept returning to the big win, and added: “Once in a while I would second-guess myself, and be like, ‘I hope that was the winning ticket'”.

He added that the winnings will secure him and his fiancee a smooth start into their new life together.

Miller said: “There is the wedding and a house to start doing some work on. It will definitely go a long way towards both of those.”

Recalling that nobody believed him when he shared the news, he added: “My mom believed me because she knows when I have a serious face, I guess.

“Everyone else, it took a lot of convincing.”

Iowa Lottery said: “With Miller’s prize claim, the USD 1 million [GBP 787,420] Mega Millions prize in Davenport is the only one of the four that remains unclaimed.”
