A woman has been jailed for life for strangling her new boyfriend of two months to death because his music was too loud.
Iyanna Marie Colon, 23, from the US state of Michigan, was handed the life sentence over the death of 25-year-old Maan Saleh Alblowi.
The pair had initially argued verbally on 17th January 2022, but the row escalated and eventually turned deadly.
She reported the death in Portage on 18th January 2022 and said that she had fought back after being attacked and that the death was self-defence.
She also said that she had cried and prayed over the victim before realising he was dead and contacting her family, with her and her parents going to the police.
Investigators later found that she had cleaned her apartment and told family members this was to hide fingerprints.
Prosecutors were not convinced by Colon’s claims that Maan’s death had been in self-defence and neither was the jury, with the woman found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder in early August.
It also emerged that Colon had previously attacked a police officer in 2021. The same year she had also attacked a man with a metal pipe.
In both cases, she pleaded guilty and served time in prison.
Colon has now been jailed for the rest of her life.
It is unclear if she plans to appeal the sentence.
