The incident was captured by the surveillance system at the Golden Corral restaurant located at Satellite Boulevard in Duluth in Gwinnett County, Georgia, in United States on June 30.
Sgt. Leak from the Gwinnett County Police Department had stopped by the restaurant for lunch after completing a SWAT detail when he noticed a customer struggling to breathe.
Sgt. Leak rushed to the man’s side and promptly performed the Heimlich manoeuvre. With a single, well-executed abdominal thrust, the obstructing food was immediately dislodged, restoring the man’s ability to breathe.
In a statement, the department said all officers of the Gwinnett County Police Department undergo comprehensive training in CPR, First Aid, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) every two years. This training equips them with the necessary skills to respond effectively in such critical situations.
