A mother has been arrested after police found her six-year-old son crying outside his house barefoot after having been allegedly left home alone by his intoxicated mother.

Erika Williams was arrested and charged for leaving her 6-year-old son alone at their home in Atascocita, in Harris County, in the US state of Texas on 9th July.

Newsflash obtained a statement from Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4 on Monday, 10th July, saying: “On July 9, 2023, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s responded to the 18100 block of Enchanted Rock Trail in reference to a young child found alone. Upon arriving, the witness advised he heard loud crying outside his home at approximately 5:50am and observed a 6-year-old child standing on the sidewalk.”

The police said that the mother eventually showed up after they called her and that she appeared intoxicated.

The statement said: “During the investigation, deputies found the child’s home to be unoccupied by an adult. They were able to identify the mother as Erika Williams and contacted her via cellphone. She advised she was nearby and would return. She arrived 15 minutes after she was contacted.

“When she arrived, she displayed multiple signs of intoxication. Child Protective Services was contacted and advised the facts of this case. The child was released to another family member who arrived to the location.”

Herman said: “Erika Williams was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Child Abandonment with intent to return. Her bond was set at USD 2,000.00 [GBP 1,547] out of the 183rd District Court.”
