A father and son lotto team have told how they landed an amazing USD 150,000 jackpot.
Gary Mallet and son Tim first won USD 50,000 (GBP 40,093) after they matched four of Michigan Lottery’s Powerball draw on 26th August.
Then they realised the win tripled to USD 150,000 because they’d paid an extra single dollar for a Power Play ticket.
Gary, from St Clair Shores, Michigan State, USA, said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “We checked our ticket the morning after the drawing and didn’t recognise the message we got on the ticket checker.
“We asked the clerk to scan the ticket and she used the Lottery’s app to find out how much we’d won.
“She scanned the ticket and then dropped her phone and said: ‘You won USD 150,000 [GBP 120,112]!’ We couldn’t believe it and told her to ‘Quit pulling our legs!’”
The pair say they plan to use the cash to pay off bills, complete some home repairs, and save the rest.
Gary said: “Winning is unreal and so hard to believe. It couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Michigan Lottery said: “Powerball plays may be purchased for USD 2 [GBP 1.6] each at Lottery retailers across the state and online.
“A ‘Power Play’ option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of USD 2 million [GBP 1.6 million] may be added to any Powerball play for only USD 1 [GBP 0.8].
For an additional USD 1 [GBP 0.8] per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to USD 10 million [GBP 8 million] in the nightly Double Play drawing.”
The winning ticket was bought at the Harper Gas Station, St. Clair Shores.
