A lucky punter could not stop looking at his ticket after he scratched off a half-a-million-dollar jackpot.
Alfred Leon Law from the city of Danville, Virginia State, USA, revealed he bought the ‘Cash is King’ ticket at the local Glade Hill Minute Market, and he instantly began scratching it.
But he could not believe his eyes when he realised that the USD 20 (GBP 16) scratcher had just earned him a USD 500,000 (GBP 408,040) fortune.
Alfred said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Virginia Lottery: “I just kept looking at it!”
He continued: “I don’t normally jump up and down and holler about anything!”
Upon collecting the prize at lottery headquarters on Wednesday (30th August), Alfred revealed he plans to share the winnings with his family.
The lucky man said: “I like to see people happy.”
Virginia Lottery officials said: “Cash is King is one of dozens of scratcher games available from the Virginia Lottery.
“It features prizes ranging from USD 30 [GBP 24] to USD 500,000 [GBP 408,040]. This is the first top prize claimed in the game, which means two more remain unclaimed.
“The chances of winning the USD 500,000 [GBP 408,040] top prize are 1 in 612,000. The chances of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 4.08.
“All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia.
“Mr. Law lives in Danville, which received more than USD 8.1 million [GBP 6.6 million] in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.
“In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised more than USD 867 million [GBP 708 million] for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.”
