An 80-year-old woman has died after she was run over by her own car.
The dead woman, identified as Roselyn Gray, lost her life in the accident that happened in North Reading, in the US state of Massachusetts, on the evening of 29th November.
First responders swiftly arrived at Fieldcrest Terrace just after 7:45 p.m. local time, following a report of a person trapped underneath a motor vehicle, according to the North Reading Police Department.
The victim, a former Cambridge school teacher and member of the North Reading Moose Lodge, was found beneath her Buick Regal in her driveway. Markings on the road in her neighbourhood indicated where the vehicle came to rest after rolling backwards out of her driveway.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office stated that investigators believe the Buick Regal “rolled backward and struck” Gray. Upon arrival, North Reading firefighters used airbags to lift the vehicle and free the victim, who was transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Inside the North Reading Moose Lodge, a makeshift memorial has been set up at Gray’s seat, adorned with flowers and a Michelob Ultra. Friends and fellow lodge members remember her as a witty person, expressing their sorrow over the loss of a beloved colleague.
An ongoing investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Sections. Their focus is to determine the cause of the car’s movement that led to the tragic accident.
A funeral for Gray took place on Friday, as friends and the community remembered her for her impactful career as a teacher and her vibrant personality.
