A lucky woman in the USA has had a dream come true after she scooped the top prize on a lottery scratch card that her son gave to her as a present.
Debora Rankin from the city of Hamlet, North Carolina State, USA, said the USD 500,000 (GBP 395,000) prize followed after her son visited a local Fast Mart grocery store one day.
He reportedly brought a few instant tickets back home, after which he handed her a USD 10 (GBP 8) Double Diamond Cashword scratch card as a gift.
Debora said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from North Carolina Education Lottery: “He went to the store and got some tickets and brought that one back for me.”
But the lucky lady said she couldn’t believe her eyes when she uncovered the astonishing prize seconds later.
She said: “You dream of winning something like this.”
Still in disbelief, Debora arrived at the lottery headquarters in the city of Raleigh to collect her prize on Wednesday, 28th June.
She told lottery officials: “It really didn’t become a reality for me until now.”
Debora took home USD 356,253 (GBP 281,780) after state and federal taxes. She revealed she will use some of the money to buy herself a new SUV.
North Carolina Education Lottery officials said: “The Double Diamond Cashword game debuted in April with four USD 500,000 (GBP 395,000) top prizes.
“Rankin won the first top prize in the game. Three USD 500,000 (GBP 395,000) prizes remain to be claimed.”
