Texas troopers arrested a 17-year-old driver who led police on a high-speed city pursuit while attempting to smuggle two illegal immigrants.

Dash-cam and body-worn footage shows officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) catching up to the unnamed teenager from Mission, Texas, who tried to flee at high speed across the city of Penitas on 28th July.

The incident unfolded when DPS officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to comply.

The driver eventually stopped after he managed to avoid a tyre deflation device and he and the two passengers and fled on foot towards the nearby brush.

After an extensive search, authorities managed to apprehend the teen, who is now facing charges of evading arrest and smuggling of persons.

The operation also resulted in the capture of two illegal immigrants from Honduras, who have been referred to Border Patrol for further processing.
