Woman Ends Up Scooping Top Prize On Brand New Scratch Off While Buying Lottery Tickets For Her OAP Dad

A lucky woman who made a quick stop at a local store to buy her father some scratch cards has scooped the top prize in a brand-new game after deciding to give it a go.

Doreen Sawyer said she decided to try out the new ‘Wild Cherry’ game when she pulled over at the L & M Gas & Grocery at 320 W. Mamie Eisenhower Ave, to buy her 90-year-old dad some tickets.

The lucky lady from the city of Boone, Iowa State, USA, said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Iowa Lottery: “I have a 90-year-old father who loves lottery tickets, and I buy some for myself.”

But she reportedly could not believe her eyes when she uncovered the USD 100,000 (GBP 78,670) on the USD 10 (GBP 7.8) scratch card.

She said she had to call her sister to get a reality check.

Doreen said: “I ended up FaceTiming my sister and going, ‘Can you tell me? Is this true? Because I don’t believe it.’

“She looks at it and says, ‘Yes, that is very true!'”

Immediately after she took the ticket over to her father who she claimed was shocked by her luck.

Doreen said: “He dropped his jaw all the way to the floor and said, ‘All I ever win is USD 20 [GBP 15] to USD 40 [GBP 31]!'”

At lottery headquarters in the city of Clive on Friday (16th June), Doreen revealed she plans to invest her winnings.

Iowa Lottery officials said: “Sawyer won the first top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s ‘Wild Cherry’ scratch game, a USD 10 [7.8] scratch game that debuted this month.

“It features eight top prizes of USD 100,000 [GBP 78,670] and overall odds of 1 in 2.83.”
