A lucky punter in the USA said he was over the moon after a random online message urging him to check his ticket revealed he had just become a millionaire.

The unnamed player from the city of Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan State, USA, said he was ecstatic when he realised he had matched lucky numbers 20, 25, 26, 27, 36 and 44 on Wednesday, 5th July.

The amazing USD 1.5 million (GBP 1.1 million) win followed soon after he bought the lucky Lotto 47 ticket at the Carnival Market at 1101 East Walton Boulevard in his hometown.

He said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Michigan Lottery: “I saw a message online that someone had won the Lotto 47 Double Play and recognised the location, but I didn’t think there was any way I was the winner.

“As soon as I checked my ticket, my mind was racing and thinking about how I could use the money for my family.”

Upon visiting lottery headquarters in the city of Lansing, the lucky player was given the option to chose between a USD one million lump sum or receiving the prize in annual payments.

He chose the lump sum, and said: “Winning is life changing and means financial security for my family.”

Michigan Lottery official said: “Each Lotto 47 play is only USD 1 [GBP 0.8].

“Players select six numbers from one to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot starting at USD 1 million [GBP 778,220] and that grows until someone wins it.

“For an additional USD 1 [GBP 0.8] per play, Double Play may be added to a Lotto 47 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to USD 1.5 million [GBP 1.1 million] in the nightly Double Play drawing.

“For an additional USD 1 [GBP 0.8] per game, players may add EZMatch to their ticket for a chance to win up to USD 500 [GBP 389] instantly.

“Lotto 47 drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturday at 7.29pm.”
