A woman was arrested after a 14-year-old child that was in her care accidentally shot himself in the leg with a gun he found inside her car.
Accused Katlynn Briley Mohon, 33, was reportedly travelling along with three juveniles in her car that also contained drugs from the Tampa Bay area toward Orlando, in the US State of Florida on 14th August.
One of them, a 14-year-old boy, reportedly found a loaded gun in her vehicle and shot himself in his right leg by accident.
Mohon took the injured boy to the Night Owl Urgent Care at around 8:46pm.
Medics immediately alerted law enforcement while the boy was transferred to Tampa General Hospital for further treatment.
Upon arrival, detectives found the other two teens – one aged 14 and the other aged 16 – sitting in Mohon’s vehicle.
Police said none of the juveniles were Mohon’s children but they were entrusted to her care.
They also discovered two handguns in the vehicle’s passenger area, along with 32 grammes (1.1 oz) of cocaine and 96 grammes (3.3 oz) of marijuana.
Mohon was immediately arrested and charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession of Cannabis Over 20 grams, Culpable Negligence Inflicting Actual Harm, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
She was booked into the Polk County Jail and later released after paying a USD 52,500 (GBP 41,200) bond.
The victim was reportedly in stable condition.
She is set to appear in court on 19th September.
