Suspect Attempts To Escape Police By Jumping Into Canal

A man driving a stolen truck and towing a stolen trailer was arrested after attempting to evade police by running off and jumping into a canal.

Suspect Ray Norris, 40, was charged with Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting an Officer, Criminal Mischief, and Grand Theft (Motor Vehicle) after he led police on a dramatic chase across Port Orange, in the US State of Florida on 17th August.

The pursuit began as police first attempted to perform a traffic stop.

After a brief compliance, the truck sped off, dropping off a passenger before making a dramatic entrance into a nearby park.

The driver then smashed through a locked gate and onto a walking path, narrowly missing a pedestrian.

Norris was then seen exiting the truck only to continue fleeing on foot.

He jumped into a nearby canal in an attempt to swim away from the cops but was apprehended as they followed him in.

The passenger, Christopher Norris, 40, was also taken into custody.

Both were booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail.
