A wife who had thought she had dreamed her husband’s USD 1 million lotto win was astonished when he told her it was true.

Overjoyed Charles Wolthuis, 78, had been checking his ticket numbers early in the morning when he realised he’d won the life changing sum.

But when he woke up his wife Jean to tell her, she simply rolled over and went back to sleep.

Charles said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Michigan Lottery: “I woke up my wife and told her we won USD 1 million [GBP 824,120], but she thought I was kidding and went back to bed.

“When she woke up, she told me she had a dream that we won the Lottery.

“I said, ‘We did! That wasn’t a dream, we won USD 1 million [GBP 824,120]!’.”

Charles said he bought the winning ticket at the local Purk’s convenience store in the city of Ionia, Michigan state, USA.

He added: “I usually play Powerball every drawing.

“I called the winning numbers hotline and wrote down the winning Powerball numbers right when I woke up the morning after the drawing.

“I checked my ticket and saw I’d matched five numbers, but I wasn’t sure what I’d won.

“I called my daughter and asked her to check and see what the prize is for matching five numbers.

“It was quiet for a minute, and then she said: ‘Dad, you won USD 1 million [GBP 824,120]!'”

Charles and Jean collected their prize at lottery headquarters on Tuesday, 24th October after matching numbers 12, 26, 27, 43, and 47 on the Powerball draw on Monday, 2nd October.

They said that they plan to use the money to pay off their home and buy a new truck.

Michigan Lottery officials said: “A ‘Power Play’ option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to ten times to a maximum of USD 2 million [GBP 1.6 million] may be added to any Powerball play for only USD 1 [GBP 0.8].

“For an additional USD 1 [GBP 0.8] per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to USD 10 million [GBP 8.2 million] in the nightly Double Play drawing.”
