A teacher has been arrested after reportedly maintaining a relationship with a teen student and exchanging nudes and explicit videos.

Rikki Lynn Laughlin, 25, had been working as a teacher at St. James R-1 High School, in the US state of Missouri where she is said to have had sexual contact with a 16-year-old student.

According to reports, the unnamed student told police that Laughlin first started contacting him on Snapchat and they kissed in the classroom.

The teen reportedly told the police that his teacher sent him nude photos and an explicit video where she used dildo, and asked for images in return which she received.

After a while, Laughlin reportedly told the student to delete the images she had sent to him out of fear that people would find out and she would end up in prison.

Although the teen had deleted some photos, he reportedly showed several photos to the police.

The affidavit stated that Laughlin invited the teen to her home, while her husband was not there on 14th October.

But the boy reportedly “made excuses for not meeting with Laughlin because he did not feel comfortable”.

Laughlin reportedly told the police that the teen made the first contact and did not deny the relationship.

She said: “I was not aware he was a minor until yesterday.”

Laughlin is accused of one count each of possession of child pornography, tampering with a witness, tampering with physical evidence, attempted statutory rape in the second degree, promoting obscenity in the first degree, and furnishing pornographic materials to a minor.

She has been placed on leave from her workplace.

St. James R-1 School District Superintendent Tim Webster said: “The District takes these matters seriously and reported allegations to appropriate outside agencies, including law enforcement.

“We have been actively cooperating with these agencies since the initial report.”

Laughlin’s bond has been set at USD 100,000 (GBP 82,725).

She will appear in court on 20th November.
