A lotto fan who was given the wrong ticket when he bought a USD 20 scratchcard has won an astonishing USD 250,000 jackpot.
Winner Mark Black had asked for a particular game ticket when he stopped off at a supermarket to try his luck.
But when the cashier printed off a ticket for the wrong game he decided to go with the flow.
And moments later amazed Mark – from the city of Roanoke, Virginia State, USA – had scooped a massive quarter million dollar prize with his rogue ticket.
Mark said he thought at the time: “Aww, let’s go ahead and take it.”
And when he collected his winnings at Virginia Lottery headquarters on 3rd July, Mark said: “It was pretty exciting! My hands started shaking.”
Mark – who retired recently – secured his win with a USD 20 (GBP 16) U Print ‘n Play Dazzling Doubler ticket from a Greenway Market branch.
Virginia Lottery officials said: “Print ‘n Play Dazzling Doubler is a Virginia-only, instant-win game that has a top prize of USD 250,000 [GBP 192,166].
“Each ticket costs USD 20 [GBP 16]. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 480,000. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 2.98.
“All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia.
“In Fiscal Year 2022, the Lottery raised more than USD 779 million [GBP 590 million] for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.”
