Man Only Finds He Won The 1M Jackpot After Seeing It Was Unclaimed

A man in the US only found he had won a USD one million lottery jackpot when he saw a report saying that the jackpot prize had still not been claimed in the USD one million Mega Millions prize.

And incredibly, David Morris from the town of Pineville in North Carolina, USA, only won after asking his kids to help him choose the numbers.

The lucky man matched numbers on all five white balls to win his USD one million (GBP 786,000) super prize on Tuesday, 2nd August.

He celebrated the amazing win after taking part in the competition for the fourth-largest Mega Millions jackpot ever.

The estimated jackpot of USD 1.35 billion (GBP 1.06 billion) ranks as the second largest in the game’s history.

The dad said that he does not usually play Mega Millions but after seeing the amount another decided to give it a chance in the hope of gaining the big jackpot.

David said the winning numbers were from one of his sons and he now plans to try for the USD 1.35 billion jackpot too.

He added that when he found out he was in shock and added in a statement obtained by Newsflash from NC Educational Lottery on 4th August: “I started hyperventilating. I called my wife at work and told her to come home right away.”

He said that he had purchased the winning ticket from the 7-Eleven store on South Polk Street in Pineville.

He claimed his prize at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home USD 712,501 (GBP 559,940).

Speaking about what he plans to do with it, David said: “We want to buy some land up in the Smoky Mountains where my wife is from.”
