Massive Blaze Engulfs Plastic Facility As Hazardous Smoke Spreads Across City

This dramatic footage shows massive plumes of black smoke rising from a plastic facility that went up in flames after a nearby vehicle caught fire and it spread.

The facility on Hawking Drive, identified as Atkore United Poly Systems, south of Albuquerque in New Mexico, USA caught fire at around 2:38 pm on 6th August.

Despite windy conditions, Bernalillo County Fire Rescue and multiple departments managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The building was swiftly evacuated with no reported injuries.

The city’s Environmental Health Department advised residents to stay indoors and close all their doors and windows to keep safe from hazardous air pollutants.

At 5 pm, a health alert was issued for Albuquerque and Bernalillo County residents, warning of the unhealthy smoke that persisted until 10 am the following day.

The fire was attributed to a vehicle fire near the facility that escalated out of control.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
