Amazed Jenny Conzales Castillo from Newport News, Virginia State, USA, had been napping at home after a toughday at work.

But she couldn’t believe it when she woke and opened her lottery app to play an online game – and moments later scored a massive win.

Jenny told how her phone lit up telling her she’d won USD 1.87 million (GBP 1.48 million).

She said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Virginia Lottery: “I told my daughter, ‘Pinch me! I want to know if I’m dreaming or awake!’.”

Jenny collected her prize at lottery headquarters on 1st December and said she plans to fund her daughter’s college education with some of the cash.

Virginia Lottery representatives said: “Ms Castillo won big in the ‘$crooge’ online game, which features a progressive, growing jackpot and can be accessed at the Lottery’s website, valottery.com, or on the Lottery’s mobile app.

“The odds per game of winning a prize in $crooge are 1 in 3.86.

“In addition to online instant games, players can purchase Powerball, Mega Millions, Cash4Life, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, and Cash 5 with EZ Match plays online.

“Players must be at least 18 years of age and physically located in Virginia.”

They continued: “All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia.

“Ms Castillo lives in Newport News, which received more than USD 33.5 million [GBP 26.6 million] in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.

“In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised more than USD 867 million [GBP 690 million] for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.”
