A registered sex offender has been arrested and placed in custody after he used social media to meet single mums and later sexually assaulted them and their daughters.
Antonio Arredondo was charged with three counts of rape, three counts of sodomy and three counts of sex abuse by a Washington County grand jury on Wednesday, 2nd August.
The 37-year-old registered sex offender – convicted for abusing a 10-year-old child in 2009 in Texas, USA – was also indicted for another count of sex abuse regarding a separate victim on Monday, 21st August.
Meanwhile, according to the Deputy District Attorney, two more cases are currently being looked into by the Portland Police Bureau and the City of Dallas Police.
Investigators found out that Arredondo used social media apps such as Facebook to meet single mums who had young daughters.
He would then begin dating the single mothers and eventually get invited in their homes, after which over a short period of time he would sexually assault both them and their daughters.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Arredondo is a registered sex offender, which stems from a case in Texas with similar circumstances as the ones in Oregon.
“Investigators believe he has been in the Pacific Northwest for several years.
“Since there are multiple cases throughout Oregon, investigators and the District Attorney’s office strongly believe there are additional victims in the Pacific Northwest region.”
Sergeant Danny DiPietro from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said: “This is some kind of predator in our opinion.”
The District Attorney’s Office said: “This defendant is dangerous and has demonstrated a willingness and an ability to ingratiate himself with mothers so that he can victimise their daughters.
“He is a sex offender who is violently re-offending and making statements suggestive of a willingness to physically harm the witnesses.
“The community is at risk, as are the people who have come forward.”
Arredondo was booked at Washington County Jail on the warrants that stemmed from both grand jury indictments.
He will remain behind bars until trial.
