An amazed lottery winner has promised to take her entire family for a holiday of a lifetime at Disneyland after scooping nearly half a million dollars in a jackpot.
Overjoyed Shayla Kaufin, from Warren, Michigan State, USA, could not believe it when she checked her numbers and found she had won USD 390,000 (GBP 320,464).
Shayla, 39, had been offered a trade of USD 25,000 (GBP 20,497) for life after the drawing on Monday, 9th October, but decided to take a lump sum instead.
She said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Michigan Lottery: “This ticket was the very first Lucky For Life ticket I have ever bought.
“When I was purchasing my Powerball tickets online, I saw the Lucky For Life game listed and thought, ‘Why not?’ and bought USD 10 [GBP 8] worth of tickets.”
She continued: “I logged in to my Lottery account the next day to see if I’d won anything, and when I saw USD 390,000 [GBP 319,794] pending,
“I started screaming, crying, and freaking out!
“I called my husband to tell him how much I’d won, and he was concerned at first because he thought something was wrong.”
Relieved Shayla explained: “Winning is indescribable! It feels like the weight of the world has been taken off my shoulders.
“It may not be enough money to change the world, but it’s enough money to change my world!”
After the family trip, lucky Shayla plans to invest the rest of the winnings.
Michigan Lottery representatives said: “For just USD 2 [GBP 1.6] per play, Lucky For Life gives Lottery players a chance to win prizes ranging from USD 3 [GBP 2.4] to a lifetime of cash.
“To win the game’s top prize of USD 1,000 [GBP 821] a day for life, players must match all five winning numbers ranging from 1 to 48, plus one Lucky Ball ranging from 1 to 18.
“Players who match all five winning numbers, but not the Lucky Ball, will win USD 25,000 [GBP 20,537] a year for life.
“Drawings take place at 10.38pm seven days-a-week.”
