A lucky man in the USA has become a millionaire after buying a lottery ticket while heading inside the store to grab a drink.
Leland Gohlmann from the city of Fremont, Nebraska state, USA, said he felt a bit thirsty after filling up his tank at Casey’s gas station and convenience store earlier this month.
The occasional player said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Nebraska Lottery: “I was getting gas and I decided to get a pop. While I was in there, I thought I might as well get a ticket.”
The morning after the 14th October drawing, Gohlmann overheard some rumours at the store where he bought the ticket that someone in the city had won USD 1 million (GBP 816,390).
He then called the lottery officials who confirmed he had matched all of the five winning numbers 14, 16, 42, 48, and 64.
The lucky player reportedly missed Powerball number 17, which would have given him a win of an astonishing USD 20 million (GBP 16.3 million).
Leland and his wife Jeri collected their prize at lottery headquarters in the city of Lincoln on Thursday, 19th October.
Recalling the moment he told her the good news, his wife Jeri said: “He was so calm. I just didn’t believe it.”
Nebraska Lottery representatives said: “Powerball is a multi-state jackpot game currently offered by 45 state lotteries, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
“The odds of winning USD 1 million [GBP 816,390] playing Powerball are 1 in 11,688,053.52 while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9.”
