Lotto Winner Says He Couldn’t Stop Screaming After Huge Win

A lotto winner who scooped USD 300,000 on a scratchcard has told how he couldn’t stop screaming after discovering his massive win.

Hopeful Gregory Monahan, from Mason City, in the US state of Iowa, chose to redeem a USD 40 (GBP 32) win on a single Ruby Red Crossword ticket at the local Kwik Star store.

And he was amazed when he scratched off the panel and found he had won a huge USD 300,000 (GBP 238,509) jackpot.

Pipefitter Gregory, 45, said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Iowa Lottery: “I just started screaming.”

He added: “Just the biggest rush of excitement ever, that’s the only way I can explain it.

“Got home, scratched the QR code and scanned it, and just shocked, just totally shocked.”

Cautious Gregory collected the prize at Iowa Lottery headquarters on Monday, 4th December, but said he has not made any plans about how to spend it.

He said: “I’m going to tuck a lot of it away in the bank right now. I’m not going to jump the gun on anything right away.”

Iowa Lottery representatives said: “Ruby Red Crossword is a USD 30 [GBP 24] scratch game that features 16 top prizes of USD 300,000 [GBP 238,509], 47 prizes of USD 10,000 [GBP 7,953], and overall odds of 1 in 2.29.”
