A mother and her 19-year-old daughter accused of strangling the mother’s newborn baby and dumping the boy’s body in a bucket are facing murder charges in Ohio.
Basma Abdul Alkelezli, 36, is said to have throttled the baby soon after it was born at the family home in Hillard, USA.
Then, believe police, she wrapped the body in a bin liner and gave it to daughter Hanan Ahmad Al Jabouli who put it in a bucket in the boot of a car in the back yard.
An autopsy is to decide whether the baby was still alive when his body was dumped, say police.
The gruesome truth only emerged when Jabouli called paramedics on 20th September because she could not wake her mother soon after the killing.
She told the emergency switchboard: “My mom is not waking up. I don’t know what’s going on with her.”
But when paramedics arrived they saw that Alkelezli had given birth recently but there was no sign of a baby.
Police later found the baby’s tiny body in an orange bucket in the red SUV.
Both women, reports local media, are facing charges of murder, endangering children, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse and obstructing justice
Hilliard Police Division said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Officers were called to a residence at 4435 Paxton Drive South at 8:51 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20.
“Shortly before, Norwich Township Fire Department medics had responded to a medical emergency at the home and discovered evidence that a child was recently born.
“Upon arrival, officers searched the area and found the baby in a vehicle parked in the backyard.
“Officers immediately administered CPR. The child was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where it was pronounced dead.
“An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the infant’s death.
“A woman believed to be the child’s mother was transported to an area hospital.”
Chief of Police Michael Woods said: “This is a heartbreaking situation and one of the worst calls to receive.
“We’re focused on determining what happened to this child.”
