A stunned lotto winner has told how he was so amazed he had won USD 50,000 on a scratchcard he went back to the shop to thank the assistant who sold it to him.
The 65-year-old retired car worker – known only as ‘Old Skool’ – has bought the USD 20 card at his local Shore Stop convenience store in Berlin, Maryland State, USA.
He had earlier cashed in small wins on other tickets to see if his lucky streak would continue on the ‘USD 50,000 Cash’ game.
He then won USD 30 (GBP 24) on the first one, which he then exchanged for a few more tickets and ended up winning another USD 100 (GBP 79).
But he was amazed when his luck kept going and he scooped a USD 50,000 jackpot on the second ticket.
‘Old Skool’ said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Maryland Lottery: “I scanned it at the counter scanner and when I saw the USD 50,000 [GBP 39,505] prize I was all shook up.
“I’ve had some luck here and there, but winning something like this blew me out of the water.”
But he added: “When you’re on a roll, you’re on a roll and you’ve just got to roll with it.”
Maryland Lottery revealed that as well as Old Skool’s thanks, the store will get a USD 500 (GBP 395) bonus for selling him the ticket.
They said: “The USD 50,000 Cash [GBP 39,505] scratch-off hit Lottery retailers starting in December, launching with thousands of prizes from USD 20 [GBP 16] to USD 5,000 [GBP 3,956] and 160 top-prizes of USD 50,000 [GBP 39,505].
“With this top-prize win, 95 USD 50,000 [GBP 39,505] prizes remain.
