A lucky woman in the USA has won nearly GBP 200,000 on the lottery after deciding to take a break from breakfast and try her luck online.
Rachelle VanBuren from the city of Hampton, Virginia State, USA, was enjoying her Sunday breakfast when she decided to take five and play the ‘Marvelous Money: Vegas Nights’ game online.
But not too long after, she ended up stunned when the monitor showed her she had just hit the USD 243,966 (GBP 194,867) jackpot.
Ecstatic over the win, Rachelle told lottery representatives upon collecting her prize on 15th August: “I showed my husband and he said, ‘That’s not real!’ I had to prove it to him.”
Virginia Lottery officials said: “Marvelous Money: Vegas Nights is one of dozens of online instant games available on the Virginia Lottery app and at valottery.com.
“The jackpot grows as more people play. The odds of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 4.31.
“In addition to online instant games, players can purchase Powerball, Mega Millions, Cash4Life, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, and Cash 5 with EZ Match plays online.
“All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia.
“Ms. VanBuren lives in Hampton, which received more than USD 19.7 million [GBP 15.7 million] in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.
“In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised more than USD 867 million [GBP 692 million] for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
