A lotto winner has told how he pulled a USD 130,000 fortune using a lucky dip programme to choose his numbers for him.
Kenneth Henson – from the town of Luray, Virginia State, USA – had just finished his night shift when he checked his numbers in the Cash 5 drawing on 26th July on his way home.
Astonished Kenneth was overjoyed when he found he had managed to hit all five numbers with his ticker from a 7-Eleven store – against odds of nearly 800,000 to one.
He told Virginia lottery officials he plans to spend his USD 130,000 (GBP 102,731) jackpot on home improvements.
Virginia Lottery officials said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Cash 5 with EZ Match features a rolling jackpot, starting at a minimum of USD 100,000 [GBP 78,907].
“The odds of matching all five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 749,398.
“In addition, a player who spends an extra dollar for EZ Match receives five randomly generated numbers with a prize of up to USD 500 [GBP 394] associated with each number.
“If those numbers match any of the numbers on the ticket for the drawing, the player wins that prize – even before the drawing is held.
“All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. Mr. Henson lives in Page County, which received more than USD 3 million [GBP 2.3 million] in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.
“In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised more than USD 867 million [GBP 684 million] for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.”
