A lucky couple’s Christmas wish has turned real after they scooped USD 125,000 on a holiday scratchcard.
Amber and Tony Snead had just left a local Kroeger store after buying groceries when they realised they had forgotten something on Sunday, 12th November.
Since it was closer to their house, the couple from the city of Lexington, in the US state of Kentucky, pulled over at Crossroads IGA on Abigail Way to pick up the missing item.
But on her way out, Amber noticed the vending machine and bought several holiday-themed USD 10 (GBP 8) 25 Days of Winning tickets.
Amber said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Kentucky Lottery: “We sat down to watch the Bengals game yesterday, and I started to scratch it off.
“It was like the third one that I scratched off. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.'”
Amber said she was stunned when she revealed the auto symbol indicating the game’s USD 125,000 (GBP 100,849) top prize.
She continued: “I called him [Tony] over. We could not believe it. I mean, we still didn’t believe it until we took it down to the Shell station and they confirmed that it was a winner.”
Tony said: “The lady’s eyes popped out. She pulled us to the side and quietly told us to sign it.”
The professional chef who had worked for the University of Kentucky basketball team before he switched jobs this year, was happy that he will finally be able to open his own business.
He said: “I honestly couldn’t believe it. The first thing, I was like, we’re getting our food truck.
“That’s just my passion, I love elevating food, and seeing people’s reaction to food. I’m just ready for it.”
Amber added: “The dream’s always been to get the food truck.”
The lucky couple received USD 89,375 (GBP 72,130) after state and federal taxes.
Aside from buying a food truck, the lucky couple told lottery officials said they would spend some of the winnings on a nice trip.
Kentucky Lottery representative said: “Crossroads IGA will receive USD 1,250 (GBP 1,008) for selling the ticket.”
