A lucky man has scooped USD 100,000 on a long-forgotten lottery ticket after he found it while cleaning his car months after the drawing.
Douglas Herbert from the city of Richmond, Virginia State, USA, said he was cleaning his truck when he saw the Powerball ticket he had bought for the 14th June drawing.
He was shocked when while checking, he realised he had matched four winning numbers plus the Powerball number, earning him USD 100,000 (GBP 79,219).
Douglas said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Virginia Lottery: “I scratched my head. I had to make sure. It’s going to take time to sink in.”
When collecting his prize at lottery headquarters, the lucky man revealed he had bought the ticket at retailer Chubby’s, at 1130 New Market Road in Henrico County.
Virginia Lottery officials said: “The winning numbers in that drawing were 3-20-36-42-64, and the Powerball number was 4.
“Powerball drawings are held at 10.59pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
“The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25. For more information on Powerball, visit the game’s site.
“All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia.
“Mr. Herbert lives in Richmond, which received nearly USD 25.6 million [GBP 20.2 million] in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.
“In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised more than USD 867 million [GBP 686 million] for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.”
